I
Swift flute swirls
evoke the weighted breath of a forest night
spent meditating with playful awareness.
Floating rings from this birth canal of carbon
integrate a quieted mind
into the vast community of unexamined,
expanding tree rings.
Despite the swift and delicate fingers of evaporation,
liquid renewal emerges from the soil
to replace the human reservoir of disconnection
with a heartening stream of togetherness
that flows just as well towards endings
as it does towards beginnings.
II
The peaceful droop
of your twin unburdened hands
draws forth a familiar arrow
from the quiver of yearning:
with glacial demeanor
your empty hands and hollow ears
await the moment when your lips
once again divert lungfuls of air
into the singing arms of sound.
III
Listening carefully to the ebb and tide
of your body-essence,
you unconsciously transform each wave
into the sweetly flowing notes
of rapturous rejuvenation;
serenity crystallizes and
finally you understand:
as your eyes see,
as your ears hear,
so the swift flute swirls.
As your ears see,
as your eyes hear,
so the swift flute swirls.
